Gilbert Paterson Choral Music & Handbells
Choral Program
Choir Director: Tyler Leavitt
Welcome to the Choral program at Gilbert Paterson Middle School. Our department has a strong tradition of fine choral music in Lethbridge. We strive for an overall perception of the performer, the listener, the evaluator and the composer while developing musical skills and knowledge.
Choral music allows one to express his/her inner self. Experiencing a varied repertoire of music can be rewarding. Being a part of a group and learning cooperation and commitment while maintaining individualism is fulfilling.
Blend, harmony, intonation, vowel formation and theory are some of the skills students will develop through the year. Sharing music with others will be accomplished through performances held in our local community and in the province.

Handbell Choirs
Handbell Director: Fiona Miller
Handbell and Handchime choirs make a beautiful sound. A handbell choir has a greater range than an orchestra and more uniformity than a choir. Performing in a handbell choir is no easy feat, as it involves learning a new instrument, teamwork and a sense of rhythm. The payoffs definitely are worth the time, though, as these bells sound almost magical when played well. GPMS Handbell Choirs offer students a co-curricular opportunity to make music at both public and private events and in festivals. The Handbell choirs at our school rehearse for approximately 40 minutes/week in either lunch time or after school practices.
